The opposition says there is no threat to the Kurunegala rally of opposition candidate General Sarath Fonseka scheduled to be held today. A JVP official speaking to Daily Mirror online said that claims of an attempt to bomb the rally are false and is aimed at discouraging people from turning up for the event.

An SMS was circulating today saying there was an attempt to bomb the rally and garner sympathy votes for General Sarath Fonseka.  (YP)

General Fonseka has proved that such threats to his life could not stop him reaching his target. No one can stop him becoming the Next President

I can't believe that they actually think people of Sri Lanka are so stupid and naive! A paranoid regime, now running out of ammunition ...

Govt motivated Thugs are the only Threat !

Premadasa did the same and lost his life. Hope SF's campaign organizers are not that desperate to put him in danger to garner sympathy votes.

Sarah Fonseka does not need a sympathy vote. However, people going to other rallies should be careful about bombs and sympathy votes as happened many times in the past

    Wednesday, 20 January 2010 03:23 PM

This desperate government would go to anylength to prevent the massive crowds that SPONTANEOUSLY turn up for SF meetings.

unlike MR'S meetings for which crowds are transported in CTB buses. fron all over the country. That is why in Ruwanwella one man when asked what he would like had answered " boats & fishing rods " cos

    He had come from Negombo!

No need to stage a boming to gain sympathy votes, majority of voters are for SF

Whatever it is we know that JVP is begging for sympathy votes.

    Wednesday, 20 January 2010 09:36 AM

With d level of desparation increasing day by day even bombing d rally may b in their agenda.hope d security is thorough to avoid any such event taking place.

    Wednesday, 20 January 2010 10:07 AM

The motive was clearly to discourage the large crowds which were sure to attend this rally, which, however, would have surpassed the not-so-impressive" crowds that attended the recent meeting in support of MR. Govt. is hell-bent on spreading fear-psychosis among the masses. What a pathetic scenario for a demi-god and cohorts who expected a cake walk to continuity of their regime.
