Namal Rajapaksa replaced his brother Yoshitha as Sri Lanka’s national rugby captain ahead of the Serendib International Cup 2013 to be played in Sri Lanka later this month, as preparation for next years Asian Five Nations tournament.

Yoshitha, who plays for Sri Lanka Navy was severely injured at a practice session recently and will most probably miss the entire season this year.

The IRB supported tri-nations event will also feature Sri Lanka, Poland and Madagascar.

All matches will be played at the Colombo Racecourse Ground from the 26 the of October to the 1st of November.

“We are lucky to have Namal Rajapaksa represent our country as captain. Namal has excelled in rugby from school days as he was the captain of S. Thomas in 2005, he then went on to play for the national team as well as the Sri Lanka Navy” said SLRFU President Asanga Seneviratne. (Menaka Gunasekara)

As the inimitable Sunil Perera sung: "Meka comedy country yak ..."

Its really ironic that one of the teams is from Madagascar. Wonder if the captain of their team is "King Julian" of the lemurs from thcartoon film Madagascar?
