Infant and mother killed in accident

A car crashed into a tent killing an 8 month old infant and the mother while injuring 6 persons at Jampettah street opposite St. Anthony’s church, Kochchikade this morning, police said.

Speaking to the Daily Mirror police spokesman Ajith Rohana said, that the victims were from Kalawana, Rakwana area and were resting in the tent made for the Kochchikade feast when the incident occurred.

The car driver who crashed into the tent had abandoned the car and fled.

The injured were admitted to the Colombo general hospital. Police are conducting further investigations. (Sanath Desmond)

    reckless driving is increasing and getting out control.. road designs should be revised to protect pedestrians in congested areas and narrow streets.

    no amount of protection is going to solve the problem unless people start using the pavements and yellow line crossing, a driver cannot help it when pedestrians behave like stray dog's and cattle

    I agree with RV on this...We can't necessarily blame the drivers also (Yes there are reckless drivers. Not that there isn't) because most accidents happen due to the carelessness and plain ignorance of the pedestrians who leave their brains at home and go about their business.....Why is the police always blaming the driver of the vehicle? Why not look at the actions of the pedestrians also during an accident??...
