A five day old infant who was buried alive by his own mother was rescued in Vavuniya,  the police said.

The mother of the infant had lost her husband during the war and she has a seven year old daughter from that marriage according to reports . The vigilant parents of the mother and neighbors who had seen something suspicious were able to rescue the infant the Police said.

According to people living in the vicinity the mother of the baby was chased away from her ancestral home after they found that the mother was pregnant  out of wedlock.

However, she gave birth to a healthy male child and came back to her ancestral home where she decided to bury the child alive.( Romesh Madushanka)

Why these type of mothers are killing infant alive since they scared to the society, this is the reason they take such decision, in Sri Lanka, if government can take over the children born in such a way, these issues can be solved, it is happening in western countries.

Unfortunately, this cannot be looked only as cruel; We have heard so many such incidents taking place in these war effected areas.

Isn't it enough the things that the Government is doing free of charge as it is? Why do people expect everything from the government? Another burden to the tax payers.........

Killing a baby is one thing. Burying it alive is another - even worse. At least make the death painless to the baby. There is no way you can justify these acts. People here are saying this is happeing because of the society's weakness. Bulshit. Mothers are supposed to protect babies from society. Our mothers did.

Society clearly needs to change in the way they think and act. People need to be taught proper birth control methods. This is a complete failure of the authorities and our schools to have taught us correct birth control and sex education.

Secondly, society needs to accept that marriage is not the only way to have children. Being a single mother should not be frowned upon. We should provide support to women who are single mothers not chase them out of our homes! Ridiculous! And at the end of the day, the innocent child suffers from our prejudice thinking.

The money spent on these unfortunate war victims, is nothing compared to the money spent on the President's foreign visits with extended families and his favourite catchers!!!
