India has stressed to the Sri Lankan government "the necessity" of reaching a political settlement acceptable to all the communities there, including the Tamils, PTI quoted India’s External Affairs Minister S M Krishna as saying today.

"The government is of the view that the conclusion of the military operations in Sri Lanka provides an opportunity to make a new beginning and pursue a lasting political settlement in Sri Lanka," External Affairs Minister S M Krishna said while replying to a written question in the Rajya Sabha.

He said the way forward lies in a peacefully negotiated political settlement within the framework of a united Sri Lanka acceptable to all the communities there, including the Tamils.

"The necessity of reaching a political settlement has been stressed to the Sri Lankan government," he added.

External Affairs Minister S M Krishna’s findings that there is necessity for reaching political settlement in Sri Lanka should not ne ignored.

We need to remind India that necessity never made good bargains. It is incomprehensible India ignored all types of bargaining oppertunities and now moaning about necessity.

However, as a friendly neighbour and as a big brother, India has cause for concern.

and make the majority and the minority understand the
cordial living which was there before 1983.

I hope that the day will dawn soon.

S.L.is not a part of India but a country with soverinity and has a legislature elected by its Citizens which is the Decision making body. In other words India shut up and mind your own problems.

Read Rajavarodayan Sampanthan's statement on India and its role, in the conflict, the promises given before operations; and the victory after the victory; before elections and after elections. The leaders make a beeline to New Delhi now they say it differently. If India is not interested and follows a hands off policy also she is blamed if she responds to the calls of the leaders of both the racial divide also it is wrong. Funny politics, geopolitik!

Thank you for your interest, but we listen only to the Chinese.

    Wednesday, 03 March 2010 09:05 PM

India should stop pressurizing Sri Lanka, in this manner. It is, frankly, an inteference in the affairs of another sovereign nation. Political settlements, and the like, will evolve, as they have done so in the past. Such matters cannot be implemented at the 'drop of a hat,' just because India 'insists.' India, herself, is attempting to appease her own politicians and needs to be cognizant of this fact, as it is patently obvious. Hands-off Sri Lanka, India!
