The UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon will appoint members to his expert committee only after UN Under Secretary General for Political Affairs Mr. Lynn Pascoe visits Sri Lanka to hold discussions with the government, a top UN official in New York told Daily Mirror online.

When questioned about the date of Mr. Pascoe’s visit to the island, the official said that the UN Chief was currently finalizing the details of his visit.

“Mr. Ban Ki-moon is yet to finalize the date. However he has stated that he will appoint his expert committee members only after Mr. Pascoe visits Sri Lanka,” the official said.

The official added that Mr. Ban Ki-moon was also unofficially preparing the number and names of the members he would appoint to his expert committee.

Meanwhile Permanent Representative of Sri Lanka to the UN, Dr. Palitha Kohona, speaking to Daily Mirror online, insisted that the UN Secretary General has not yet appointed any commitee. (Daily Mirror online)

    Wednesday, 10 March 2010 05:13 AM

Does Sri Lanka, as a sovereign country, have a right to unlawfully arrest, detain it's people, and/or torture it's own innocent citizens ?? We the internationalist DEMAND justice! Ligers

Ban the Puppet Ban from all developing countries.

    Wednesday, 10 March 2010 05:48 AM

This will at least help a group of UN officers from keeping their jobs intact. Utter waste of time and money for the UN.

    Wednesday, 10 March 2010 06:49 AM

The UN should investigate any war crimes in Sri Lanka and see that the name of the Government is cleared.

    Wednesday, 10 March 2010 07:08 AM

    Tuesday, 09 March 2010 11:13 PM

Why are we in the UN, which is patently applying double standards, one for 'Big Powers' and another for 'Small Nations'?

    Tuesday, 09 March 2010 05:29 PM

    Plese leave Sri Lanka alone!

    Tuesday, 09 March 2010 06:01 PM

Mr Ban/Mr Pascoe - dont push your luck as President Mahinda Rajajapaksa might tell you to 'go fly a kite,' unless you learn to respect the principle of 'non-interference,' in the internal affairs of a sovereign country.

    Tuesday, 09 March 2010 06:38 PM

Another 'twist,' by Ban Ki Moon.

    Tuesday, 09 March 2010 08:05 PM

    Tuesday, 09 March 2010 08:30 PM

    Dr. Kohona is in 'denial.'

    Tuesday, 09 March 2010 10:05 PM

The UN is inefficient, wasteful, self-serving and corrupt. Above all Ban Ki-Moon has proved himself a mere 'figure head,' not worthy to hold the post he is entrusted with. It is better if the UN spends more time and energy on controlling mosquitos.

    Tuesday, 09 March 2010 10:16 PM

Mr. Ban, you hold a very esteemed position that comes with an enormous responsibility. You need to decide whether you do have a responsibility or don't - your vacillations, with sudden spurts, followed by repeated back-tracking does not help anybody.

    Tuesday, 09 March 2010 10:30 PM

Hope the committee will be appointed and culprits brought to book!

    Tuesday, 09 March 2010 05:23 PM

Mr. Ban, you are a gentleman, but very weak in taking decisions.

    Wednesday, 10 March 2010 12:20 AM

This will be very interesting. What will happen? Will crimes be prosecuted on both sides? Time will tell.

    Wednesday, 10 March 2010 01:18 AM

Please support for ten employmnet opportunities, UN will recruit the best qualified experts who will never find employment elsewhwre.

    Wednesday, 10 March 2010 02:52 AM

Very good move by the UN. Sri Lanka has now turned into a rabid mad dog and some degree of sanity needs to be injected into its governance and accountability by the International Community.

    Wednesday, 10 March 2010 03:02 AM

Better do something soon as Sri Lanka is heading towards a DICTATORSHIP.
