Very well explained. Good thought for the crooks looking for
loopholes in the Law. We still have little bit of Rule of Law in the country. Left to the Magistrates to uphold the Law. Good luck to our country and its people.

Ruhunu Kolla Friday, 01 June 2012 03:42 PM

At school we were thought, food, clothes and shelter as the three basic requirements of humans. Thanks to kinsey report of Dr. Alfred Kinsey, in western countries, sex is also included in the list. If anyone can keep a hand on a human sexology book of pre 1945, reader would get surprised to see a lot of incorrect items are included when compared to present day books. Hence time has come to rethink about prostitution and adjust law books to suit present times. Authorities can introduce a trial period and ask police not to intervene so the manager can keep a head count of males and females who patronize there places. Again strict orders should be given not to reveal the names, otherwise eminent personalities, who wear marks to cover themself would come to light. This trial would prove how popular is this trade!

This story illustrates a very strong point. The police of the country are useless to pursue real criminals, instead they haunt people going for voluntary sex. This type of forced morality will have a very bad impact in the long run. Police should concentrate on catching real criminals. The oldest profession will survive in some form or other and the only impact the police can have with senseless acts like this is to make it more expensive for the average lankan.

    Kapilavastu Saturday, 02 June 2012 02:05 AM

This is not new. May be one of the Ministers or their sons may have been rebuffed by a "pro" even the management - hence the raid.

I do not understand why the Police cannot eradicate drugs which is going on for so long and nobody knows who is the leader/supplier. Only the young generation of the future is getting killed the Government is not worried.

    richardson Saturday, 02 June 2012 04:46 AM

Legalise prostitution and issue credit cards to the Police,or discount vouchers.

    Conty Saturday, 02 June 2012 05:07 AM

Sorry lucky, don't mix up tourism and prostitution that is a bad mix. We don't want S/L to end up like Thailand. The ave tourist is not looking for cheap sex. Your comment is in very bad taste.

    Conty Saturday, 02 June 2012 05:12 AM

Are you serious? And you can also kiss your legal aged daughter good bye. Besides the legal age of consent in S/L is 16 is it not? So your 16 yr old daughter decides on prostitution and you can't do a thing about it. Come on man pull your head in will you.

    Conty Saturday, 02 June 2012 05:18 AM

You are absolutely correct. Drugs cause problems in more ways than one. Prostitution is an age old industry it helps the men who are otherwise deprived, this is an escape route for them. I say let the prostitutes go free and police to go after real crime.

    What? Saturday, 02 June 2012 06:44 AM

Forbid sexual relationships and throw every man, woman and child into jail. Should make for an easy commute to work.

    citizen1 Friday, 01 June 2012 02:15 PM

apparently they DO have all the time in the world to waste ontrivial stuff while letting murderers and rapist escape.

    What? Saturday, 02 June 2012 06:49 AM

Drunken drivers and prostitution are apples and oranges, with a few grapes thrown in.

    Hussain Saturday, 02 June 2012 07:14 AM

Its a victimless 'crime'. Why waste law enforcement, courts etc. No one is going to gain anything. It could never be eradicated in any country, not even in Saudi Arabia. Its the worlds oldest profession. I hope the judge sees the light and let them go with a token fine of Rs, 10/- each.

    Minister Saturday, 02 June 2012 09:35 AM

Most probably the owner must have forgotten or neglected to do the oiling of palm of the top cop!!

    xlntgson Saturday, 02 June 2012 10:30 AM

Legalizing prostitution for youth will open flood gates of infections, old and new! Older people are not sought after hence left out so many cases of abuses involved with aged and overaged and vice versa.

    Dillon Saturday, 02 June 2012 01:02 PM

Its a pitty, why can we legalize it and ensure safe sex is much practiced rather than acting like children......

    Puswedilla Saturday, 02 June 2012 06:46 PM

No wonder CSE is falling, they are shutting down the only viable businesses remaining in Sri Lanka!

    Hussain Sunday, 03 June 2012 06:24 AM

Enlightened States & people know, that morality cannot ever be legislated. Sex is a natural function for normal human beings. Suppressing sex creates many problems both physical and emotional. Ask any eminent psychologist .

    Mervin Silva 2 Sunday, 03 June 2012 07:41 AM

Sooner or later this profession should be legalized in SL too. That will help minimized rape etc.

    sena Sunday, 03 June 2012 10:21 AM

    maragathe Friday, 01 June 2012 09:01 AM

Hope the Magistrate will have better sense than cops. Night Clubs are places where you can gamble, drink and enjoy pleasure of flesh. These women have been employed in an occupation and not thieves or murderers. The learned judge will do a service if the employer is ordered to pay provident fund for those employed as prostitutes. This will pave the way for legalising the oldest profession as well as let the Central Bank and the government have more funds to manipulate the strock market.

Yohan Perera Friday, 01 June 2012 09:00 AM

How sweet!!! Police is taking swift action against prostitution... We are impressed. Wonder what's next stunt???

shantha madawela Friday, 01 June 2012 09:08 AM

    aj Friday, 01 June 2012 09:08 AM

The police should set their priority to curb crime and corruption. There are alot more deadly crimes than prostitution.

    Lucky Friday, 01 June 2012 09:09 AM

We are now in a position of bringing prostitution under some legal framework. If government wants Sri Lanka to flourish with tourism, then this has to be a must.

    roshan Friday, 01 June 2012 09:11 AM

why only this night club. all night clubs are the same.
whey don't the police raid the casinos, you can find gross violations of immigration rules, where foreigners on visit visa are engaged in the same profession.

    banda Friday, 01 June 2012 09:35 AM

It is better if police can take actions to curb corruption and prevent occuring of grave crimes . Curbing of prostitution could be done if police has no other duty to perform .

Punchi putha Friday, 01 June 2012 08:49 AM

May be they haven't bribed police.

    ANTON Friday, 01 June 2012 09:34 AM

I think this is the time to legalize RED LIGHT STREETS in SL.
because this will help protect our innocent young girls from sex maniacs.

Ane Kale Friday, 01 June 2012 09:39 AM

All Arrested were released after payment of Rs 10 per person.

    kannan Friday, 01 June 2012 10:09 AM

Those who patronage night clubs are foreign tourists and above upper middle class people.they pay for their pleasure.on the other hand, can we expect foreigners to visit our country to see our cultural heritage and enjoy beautiful beaches only...??? certain people expect their pleasure in different way....as long as service doesn't fall in to the catergory of child sex, forceful sex etc...I don't see anything wrong in whats happenning in night clubs.if we want to compete with bangkok, jakarta etc.our tourism industry too should have flexibilty to attract foreign tourists.

    roshan Friday, 01 June 2012 10:48 AM

Any country in the world will have prostitutes. That is a fact. I think Police in this country have much bigger things to look in to than to waste time on this.

Ranjit De Siva Friday, 01 June 2012 10:56 AM

I think this industry should come under Basil Boy.
He can generate over 2 biillion if the industry is properly regulated and run like in Europe.

    Why cant MR appoint Basil

Lankan Sri Friday, 01 June 2012 11:02 AM

Do they expect night clubs to be like temples ? A Night Club is night club... and thats why they are called night clubs...are the police planning to Raid ALL the night clubs in and around colombo ? if so then good for Sri Lanka !

    P. Samy Friday, 01 June 2012 11:21 AM

Police should find out who the customers were. Give them a choice, give the customers names and you will be released. Same like drugs, get the customers after that no problems. Simple.

    Apsara Friday, 01 June 2012 11:48 AM

Where all these judges were gone, when a traffic accident killed 3 passersby due to the reckless fast driving of a nephew of a Deputy Minister at Payagala, and the drunken driver was released by Police when the Deputy Minister shouted to the Police to proceed the case with a substitute driver. Ultimately no body was convicted and all got released swiftly. Poor passersby (03) died. Where were all justice of so called Democratic SL.

What's the problem ?. Two consenting adults engage in an act in a private place and not harming anyone else. I hope some smart person sue the police.

Ralph Anthony Kernr Friday, 01 June 2012 12:48 PM

It seems that no Politician is involved or his guarantee period is over. I totally agree with the comment made by Apsara, regarding the drunken driver, who killed 3 innocent civllens on the spot
