Wijeyadasa requests Prez to arrest Defence Sec., IGP

MP Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe today wrote to President Maithripala Sirisena and requested him to immediately arrest Defence Secretary Hemasiri Fernando and IGP Pujitha Jayasundara.

In his letter, the MP said both officials have committed a crime under the Penal Code by not taking precautions to prevent the Easter Sunday terror attacks though they were aware of such an attack.

“The intelligence services had been giving information about the terror attacks since April 04. However, both the IGP and the defence secretary had withheld information about the attack and had not informed to both the President and the Prime Minister. Therefore, I request you to take legal action against them as the Defence Minister,” he said.

IGP has been asking for this for some time. There were so many instances of poor conduct on his part. However, Hemasiri Fernando is a major, major embarrassment. you don't appoint people of this caliber to such key positions where the very security of the country is at stake.
