High-risk areas are taken into consideration when administering vaccines in the country, Army Commander Shavendra Silva said yesterday.

General Silva told the media that this would be done considering the areas from where a substantial number of patients were detected.

“Accordingly, Kolonnawa, Gothatuwa, Moratuwa, Egodauyana, Hanwella and Pitakotte are considered high-risk areas in the Colombo district while Attanagalle, Biyagama, Divulapitiya, Dompe, Gampaha, Ja Ela, Katana, Kelaniya Mahara, Mirigama, Minuwangoda, Negombo, Ragama, Seeduwa, Wattala have been identified as high-risk areas in the Gampaha district,” he said.

“In the Kalutara district, Agalawatte, Bandaragama, Matugama, Panadura, Horana, Beruwala and Kalutara have been identified as high risk areas,” he added.

The Army Chief also said the Manning Market and Peliyagoda fish market would also be given priority in the vaccination drive.

Moreover, he said no adverse complications had been reported so far from individuals who were vaccinated.

Meanwhile, the Army Chief said administering the vaccine to foreign officials at embassies and high commissions in the country commenced from yesterday at the Army Hospital. (Sheain Fernandopulle)

He is trying to justify the haphazard vaccination. Even the GMOA has voiced their concern and displeasure in handling of the vaccination program.

Being a resident from Katana I can confirm that the PHI confirmed to wait until the respective GS’s are informed of the vaccine roll out. The GS is presently unaware of any plans. So I am uncertain what being tagged as “high risk” actually constitutes here if communication channels aren’t kept open.

Is that why the DG health in a news article had said that health officials are under pressure by the affluent and powerful to get the vaccine outside the planned program ?? You talk nonsense to cover a multitude of sins
