United National Party (UNP) seniors said they would meet on Monday to discuss the reorganizing and restructuring of the party.
UNP General Secretary Akila Viraj Kariyawasam said in a statement it was being done with the intention of making it a vibrant entity.
“We request the people to take both victory and defeat in good spirits and maintain peace. UNP will be restructured and reorganized as it was done after every previous election,” he said. “We take the responsibility for the huge defeat suffered by the UNP in the face of internal and external challenges.”
Mr. Kariyawasam said the SLPP had secured a land-slide victory despite the services rendered by the UNP government on a long term and short term basis. (Yohan Perera)

Get real man. The UNP needs a real leader with bottle and balls, not a whinging loser. So elect a worthy leader and there may be hope for the UNP or it will end up like the JVP with no mandate from the people and no seats in Parliament. 1 seat in Parliament, how pathetic is that?

It's time you all leave the party. No need to toil so hard in revamping the party. Just go. Automatically, everything will fall into its place. The message is clear. Just leave everything and go home. Plant some trees and do some charity for the sake of the future generations.

Please have a meeting with SJB and make Sajith Premadasa as UNP party leader. That's enough to get votes in the future election. Otherwise it will be the same position like SLFP in the future. RW must resign and go. He should take full responsibility for this defeat.

Ruwan Wijeywardena is the best option. Remove Sajith P. The frustrated opponents of MR don’t have a good educated credible option without making Ruwan W the leader. Others in the UNP are not publicly marketable, though there are several good names.

Restructured after every election to demolish the party even more. Now UNP is reduced to more rubble - not even grass roots will grow in the infertile rubble of bankrupt politicos that is left behind. If UNP hopes to have even a fighting chance in 2025, a complete overhaul of the entire party is what is needed now, allowing it to grow from the grassroots... to win back its next generation of constituents to deliver the common national agenda more efficiently than previous governments.
