UNP reiterates call for island-wide lockdown

The United National Party ( UNP) yesterday questioned the government on the reports that there is a move to stop PCR tests next week.

“The government should either dismiss this report or confirm it,” UNP General Secretary Palitha Range Bandara told a media conference.

“The Government should also state as to how many PCR machines are in operation in Sri Lanka and whether new machines have been ordered,” he added.

“One must realise that PCR tests are useful as these help determine the areas where COVID-19 is spreading fast, “he added. Also he reiterated that the government should go for an islandwide lockdown for two weeks in order arrest the spread of the pandemic.(Yohan Perera)

Its unnecessary,now people used to this virus,if each Individual is responsible, very high percentage is there to avoid getting it,people not complaining of burying dead,so far this is sufficient,if lock down, it would be bringing more trouble and comparatively less progress,

As a responsible party , the UNP can't be talking of only of a lockdown. That can be said even by a grade 5 person. The UNP need to go beyond and say what other alternative procedures to be introduced to reduce the hardship on the people in case of a total lockdown. I think the UNP lacks any of that calibre of people.

Powerless party should not put out statements through idiots as that will further distance them from the public. Best is to shut its mouth for the time being as no one gives a.peny to UNP ideology presently.
