Two individuals succumbed to death after the three-wheeler in which they were traveling toppled on the Hatton- Nuwara Eliya Road and crashed into a private bus coming on the opposite side this evening, police said.
The victims were identified as Kandamuththu Mohan Shiva (37), a resident of Dayagama and Kandasami Amarasekaran (40), a resident of Welimada.
The driver of the three-wheeler who received severe injuries had admitted to the Glankan Hospital and later transferred to Kandy Teaching Hospital.
The driver of the private bus has been taken into custody by Hatton Police while the post mortem over the accident to be conducted tomorrow.
Hatton Police suspects that the excessive speed of the trishaw may cause the accident. (Thilanka Kanakarathna)

Unlike many other countries we are not hit by nasty typhoons or earthquake frequently but for that blessing we have been cursed with these reckless drivers to cause fatal accidents in every way possible.

More and more lives will continue to perish as long as drivers have this attitude that they are the only ones using the roads. Absolutely zero road courtesy, especially in the city areas.

3 wheelers are the number 1 killer on the road. These vehicles have been portrayed as a poor man's vehicle but what nobody understands is, it is a zero safety vehicle. Life is more precious. Hopefully Govt will ban these 3 wheelers soon
