While saying that he was ready to fulfil the upcountry people’s dream of presidency, Plantation Industries Minister Naveen Dissanayake said it was indeed hard for the UNP to get the votes from the Southern province.
He expressed these views at a ceremony held under the “Wawili Saviya” programme at Kotmale.
“It is not with the votes of the Southern people that the UNP has been able to win its presidential elections, but with the votes of the upcountry people,” the Minister said.
He said the votes of the upcountry would have a direct impact on the next presidential candidate.
“Upcountry is considered to be the heart of the UNP,” he added.
He proceeded to say that the UNP could get the votes from the Western Province but that would not become a decisive factor. (Suranga Rajanayake)

I believe UNP under RW will have to get ready to take a long vacation for about another 20 years or so.
