The Information Technology Society of Sri Lanka ( ITSL) today urged the Election Commission to take legal action against candidates who continue to advertise via social media during the silent period.
“Some candidates have not stopped their campaigning through social media websites even 20 hours after campaigning came to an end. We have observed a large number of paid advertisements over social media with several humorous reports especially on Facebook,” it said.
The ITSL said campaigning via social media would increase if prompt action is not taken against candidates who violate election laws. (Yohan Perera)
