Speaker wants AG, EC at meeting on PC polls

The Speaker had requested Elections Commissioner (EC) and the Attorney General (AG) to be present at the next party leaders meeting to discuss holding of elections to the Provincial Councils under the old system, Minister Mano Ganesan who attended the Party Leaders meeting said.

He said the meeting was headed by Speaker Karu Jayasuriya today.

“We discussed the holding of Provincial Council elections according to the previous method and the Speaker told Elections Commissioner and the Attorney General should be present the next meeting,” he said.

“We also discussed changing the conditions that had been placed by the President on holding the elections with the new method. 

The discussion was taken up following Minister Rishad Bathiudeen and I raised the issue, he said.

The Speaker had told to hold a discussion in this regard at the next party leaders meeting, he said.
