Considering the current COVID-19 situation in the country, all schools except those in the Western Province (WP) and schools in isolated areas, will be opened tomorrow (11).
Accordingly, the schools with grades 2 to 13 will open for the first term for the year 2021, ensuring the health of the children, Education Minister Prof. G.L.Pieris said.
A discussion in this regard was held at the Ministry today.
"The decision of opening schools from tomorrow is not a coincidence. It will be done according to a well-prepared plan. We have developed a programme to monitor the implementation of it and ensure it is applied step by step in every school," he said.
Meanwhile, Eastern Province Governor Anuradha Yahampath said all schools, except the 32 schools which are situated in isolated areas due to COVID-19 pandemic, will be opened tomorrow.
Accordingly, 25 schools in the Kattankudy area, five in Kalmunai area, one school in Thirukkovil and another school in the Ampara zone will not be opened tomorrow. (Chaturanga Samarawickrama)
