Saudi Arabia today pledged $ 300 million worth of assistance to Sri Lanka, which will be disbursed to various areas in the country for various development programmes.
The Saudi Arabian Ambassador in Sri Lanka Abdul Nazar Al Hardi said during the inauguration of the Badulla-Chenkalldai Road Development project in Padiyatalawa this morning that his government would provide assistance to the tune of US 300 million.
He said the fund would be spent on water supply projects, agriculture sector, education and health facility development.
“We are happy to assist Sri Lanka and look forward to strengthen bilateral ties with Sri Lanka,” he said. (Yohan Perera)

Previously also Saudis wanted to invest in the same manner. However, It was declined by the government as there was a hidden agenda. Btw this time also it seems fishy as it goes with a term call assistance(not a loan)

Our leaders must make efforts to visit these countries more often and make friendships with these honourable leaders (they're real 'honourables', not like our dirty leeches).

Construct with a name of a flower that is commonly used at places of devotion … represent mostly the Buddhist culture …. The tower with the real appearance of an Arabic sentiment … I thought I have taken the wrong flight and arrived in Amman Jordan .. Then I noticed the unruly drivers and the three-wheelers.

Being in Saudi for sometime I was really amazed how the majority consider Srilankans to be honest and hard working over other workers from South East Asia. I remember 2 years back Srilanka clocked 40,000 plus tourists from Saudi.Its good to see Srilanka has a competent ambassador representing Srilanka.Whats sad is the fact that in past decade or two, none of Srilankan leaders have shown interest in visiting Saudi for the benefit of both countries.

SL must identify countries from whom you should accept funds. Though SL is a third world country has some qualities which attract the world towards SL. You should not put that down. Richness doesn't come only from money, rich mind-set is utmost important than money. Do NOT loose it accepting funds from these uncivilized countries like SA.

While we would all love to accept that this money is given from the goodness of their hearts, I do not think so. Why Sri Lanka and not Bangladesh for example?There is definitely a reason that the Saudis are doing this. We must be both gracious and vary as to why the Saudis are giving us such a large sum of money.

Yes, why do they give? May be they are sending a million swords to circumcise everybody in Sri Lanka. May be they want to take a million brides from Sri Lanka? Yes. We must be wary of everything because millions does not come cheap. But may be they want to take us away from the influence of Iran and Qatar. May be they want us to keep our silence when Saudi bombs kill 40 children.
