Health Minister Pavithra Vanniarachchi, who responded to a question in parliament, said a mechanism is in place together with the Health Ministry and army to trace contacts of COVID-19 patients and added that Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa who visited a Hotel in Yala recently was swiftly informed that he was a second contact.

“That was done because of the effective mechanism in place,” she said. Opposition Leader Premadasa said he followed the health advises of the doctors.

Minister Vanniarachchi said Sri Lanka was the first country in South Asia where PCR testing was started and added that it took three months to complete 50,000 PCR tests but 100,000 PCR tests were done within seven days after the Minuwangoda cluster. (Ajith Siriwardana and Yohan Perera)

Rubbish people are interested all your comments but they want immediate action

Do you have any idea this virus is spreading out of control. Do not worry about the politicians but safe guard the citizens by taking correct measures.

    Dutchman Wednesday, 21 October 2020 04:47 PM

Probably people who feel ill are too afraid to ask for a test, because home quarantaine is not allowed in Sri Lanka? Also my family in Sri Lanka told me you get victimised, you can not hide from this because the privacy rules are almost not existant in Sri Lanka. Read the full names and pictures in most articles in this newspaper for example.

    Roisin Wednesday, 21 October 2020 05:16 PM

Yes, you are right. Covid19 victims are blamed here and are send to quarantaine camps like prisoners

    Roisin Wednesday, 21 October 2020 05:39 PM

You are right. You will be taken to a quarantaine camp like a prisoner.

    Sunil Wednesday, 21 October 2020 05:56 PM

And most quarantaine centres are not 4 star hotels, believe me. Like the one in Kalutara

jay Samson Wednesday, 21 October 2020 09:13 PM

go to America privacy rules are fully existent, surely you will have a private funeral too!

    Asanka Wednesday, 21 October 2020 05:21 PM

    Still far too little tests.

    judge Wednesday, 21 October 2020 05:25 PM

None including Brandix could not prevent the spread of the virus. Is this how they look after their "girls"?

Indra dias Wednesday, 21 October 2020 05:59 PM

How many MPs opposed to 20A 2ill be hauled into quarantine to stop hem voting?

Adam Speak Wednesday, 21 October 2020 07:00 PM

I guess one the reasons to take people to quarantine centers is that they get proper quarantine free meals etc. Also you can get a covid19 negative certificate if you demanded for one. That's what my understanding?

    Dutchman Wednesday, 21 October 2020 07:36 PM

Then why so few tests? 100,000 test per week is not enough. Covid19 is not disappearing by not testing and closing eyes

    Dutchman Wednesday, 21 October 2020 07:49 PM

I apologize. I guess for me it is easy to say, living in a rich country, with enough space in our house for self quarantaine and enough food.

    Dutchman Wednesday, 21 October 2020 09:49 PM

Jay Samson, The Netherlands are not like America. I am fine here in the Nederlands and privileged to live here.

    JR Wednesday, 21 October 2020 11:01 PM

That means, Sri Lanka is the first SLAVE country to name under the command of the United States.

    roni Thursday, 22 October 2020 12:33 AM

Find out how many test The UAE does for a day. It is as many as 110k per day. So we are fair not great.

Andrew Silva Thursday, 22 October 2020 05:39 AM

According to the present situation 75% of Sri Lanka has covid 19 but people travel. Why point the finger at Sajith only. Be real Lady, stop been silly. You have a responsible position to do the right thing with out trying to score points.

Andrew Silva Thursday, 22 October 2020 05:43 AM

Hope Sajith did not give a "Um-Ma" toa Chinese in the hotel.

    Buddhist Thursday, 22 October 2020 07:37 AM

If Bandula who went for Covid test can come to Parliament, then Rishard also should come. Over to you Pavithra.

Kumara Dharmarathne Thursday, 22 October 2020 08:24 AM

It's high time to have some people of calibre to our Cabinet.
