Law will be strictly enforced against drivers and motorcyclists who were violating the lane rules from today, Police said.

Director of Traffic Control and Road Safety SSP Indika Hapugoda said that drivers violating the lane law will be fined Rs. 2,000 and will not be produced in court.

The trial of the lane rules which commenced on four main roads in Colombo since Monday morning ended today.

He said the lane law was not a new practice and that it was put into practice on several occasions earlier as well.

He said that although the lane rules were in effect from Monday, motorcycles and three-wheelers were allowed to drive in the left lane only from Wednesday as a solution to the traffic congestion. (Darshana Sanjeewa Balasuriya)

It is very sad to note that without focusing on developing the road networks and road infrastructure, the authorities are implementing laws that are not practically possible to implement.
