Road closure in Colombo for So Sri Lanka Ironman 70.3

Several roads in Colombo would be closed temporarily on Sunday to make way for the So Sri Lanka - Ironman 70.3 Colombo International Triathlon which begins from Galle Face Green, the organisers said.

The triathlon would be held on Sunday with a 1.9km sea swim, 90km bike ride and a 21.2km run.

Accordingly, the vehicle movement along the Chaitya Road, Janadhipathi Mawatha, Sir Baron Jayathilaka Mawatha, York Street, BOC Mawatha, Galle Road from Galle Face Roundabout to Marine Drive Turn off and Marine Drive would be interrupted.

Temporary road closures will be put in place as follows; (Sunday, February 24th)

Galle Face Green

Seaside lanes along Galle Road from Old Parliament roundabout to Galle Face Hotel roundabout will be temporarily closed from 3.00 am to 1.00 pm. Landside lane will be made available to the public to access the hotels.

Galle Face roundabout will be fully cordoned off from 3.00 am to 1.00 pm. However, police will control limited vehicle movements to and from Galle Face Hotel.

Galle Face car park will be closed to the public from 3.00 am to 1.00 pm.

Buses that stop in front of the old parliament will be out of bound over the duration of the event from 3.00 am to 4.00 pm.

Chaitya Road

Chaitya Road both direction will be closed from 3.00 am to 11.30 am on the 24th February 2019.

There will be no parking along Chaitya Road from 3.00 am to 4.00 pm on the 24th February 2019.

Janadhipathi Mawatha

Janadhipathi Mawatha will be closed from 3.00 am to 11.15 am on the 24th February 2019.

There will be no parking along Janadhipathi Mawatha from 3.00 am to 11.15 am on the 24th February 2019. Police will control limited vehicle movements.

Sir Baron Jayathilaka Mawatha

Sir Baron Jayathilaka Mawatha both directions will be closed from 3.00 am to 11.15 am on 24th February 2019.

There will be no parking along Sir Baron Jayathilaka Mawatha from 3.00 am to 11.15 am on the 24th February 2019.

York Street

York Street both directions will be closed from 3.00 am to 11.15 am on the 24th February 2019.

There will be no parking along York Street from 3.00 am to 11.15 am on the 24th February 2019.

BOC Mawatha

BOC Mawatha both directions will be closed from 3.00 am to 11.15 am on the 24th February 2019.

There will be no parking along BOC Mawatha from 3.00 am to 11.15 pm on the 24th February 2019.

Galle Road (Galle Face roundabout to Marine Drive Turnoff)

Both sides of Galle Road from Galle Face Hotel roundabout to the Kollupitiya Junction Marine Drive Turnoff will be temporarily closed on 24th February 2019 from 3.00 am to 1.00 pm.

Marine Drive

Both sides of Marine Drive from Kollupitiya to the Dehiwela Bridge will be temporarily closed on 24th February 2019 from 3.00 am to 1.00 pm. Residents should use Galle Road during this period.

On the 24th February 2019, the bus stand at the Kollupitiya Railway station will be moved to Kollupitiya Market.

Parking for spectators has been organised along Siri Uttarananda Mawatha and Sir Mohamed Macan Colombo 03.

    So Sri Lanka indeed! WHY cant they hold these programs in places that are not that busy? Like Hambantota or Jaffna? The roads are good, they are close to the Ocean and they can definitely run unhampered. Instead they close down Colombo, for half a day! Take the tourists out of Colombo.. there is nothing to see here except too many condominium buildings and too much traffic. Even Galle would be a better destination. Stop being lazy, dear Organisers, and take them to places that highlight the beauty of our Island (there will be thousands of photographs and instagram and facebook posts generated from this event.. the athletes will definitely thank you for it, while enjoying the scenic routes on their run/ride/swim
