President Gotabaya Rajapaksa will implement a new salary structure for chairpersons of state institutions after reports surfaced that some had been paid exorbitant salaries during the previous government, the Daily Mirror learns.
A government source said the new salary structure is currently being studied and would be implemented when new chairpersons are appointed following the recommendations of the committee appointed to recommend qualified professionals for topmost positions in state institutions.
The Daily Mirror learns that present SLT Chairman, Kumarasinghe Sirisena, who is the brother of former president Maithripala Sirisena, was paid over Rs. 2 million per month but this has now been slashed to Rs. 250,000 on the directives of President Rajapaksa.
While all other heads of state institutions have resigned following the change in government, the SLT Chairman continues to remain in his post and is likely to continue in that position. (JAMILA HUSAIN)
