Parliament is likely to be dissolved on March 2 so that the general elections can be conducted by the end of April, a top government source said yesterday.
According to the 19th Amendment to the Constitution, the President can dissolve Parliament only after completion of four and half years of its term. Accordingly, President Gotabaya Rajapaksa will be able to dissolve the House for a snap general election after March 1.
The government is keen to go for such elections as early as possible. Accordingly, a top government source told Daily Mirror that the House would be declared dissolved by the President on March 2.

President is doing a great job. Request to SLPP. I have been strong supporter of SLPP . Please do not give nominations to corrupt politicians in SLPP. It’s common knowledge who they are therefore no excuse for SLPP. This is imperative to support GR if not we will be back to square one as a country. My continued support depends on who gets nominations!!

Ofcours the government wants elections quickly. Not all people yet know the intentions of our president and his family. So they hope to get a majority in parliament.
