OIC of the Echchanmkulam Police Station in Vavuniya, IP Subhash Kumara Ariyaratne and a police constable have been arrested on charges of aiding treasure hunting in Vavuniya, police said.
The Vavuniya Division Crimes Unit officers on Sunday arrested five suspects with several pieces of equipment while digging for treasures at a land, which has archaeology value, at Kalmadula in Echchanmkulam.
The police found the OIC and the constable near the location where the suspects were arrested on Sunday and the police commenced an investigation to determine police officer’s involvement with the treasure hunting.
They were arrested by the Vavuniya Police and would be produced in the Vavuniya Magistrate's Court today. (Darshana Sanjeewa)
