Leader of Opposition Sajith Premadasa said that he would work towards forming an alliance with a number of other parties, that will include the UNP.
Speaking at a public gathering in Biyagama on Saturday, Mr. Premadasa said he would not sideline anyone in the UNP but form an alliance with everyone.
“We want to work with everyone in the UNP as we do not want to divide the party for the purpose of securing the leadership.” Mr. Premadsa said.
“Our objective should be to see the UNP retaining the number of seats it currently holds in Parliament. Therefore, I will do my utmost to see that the UNP-led alliance retains all its current MPs” he added.
However he stressed that it is the responsibility of all to ensure the UNP’s internal democracy is safeguarded. (Yohan Perera and D. M. Withanage)
