When no major country has accepted the Indian made Oxford vaccine, why Sri Lanka is taking the dangerous risk ?

    A Sri Lankan Friday, 22 January 2021 12:08 PM

So what do you think we should do ?

    kumar Friday, 22 January 2021 01:38 PM

    Beggars have no choice!

    Silva Friday, 22 January 2021 03:48 PM

We are left with oxford ,sputnik or sinovac due to logistical issues related to moderna and pfizer vaccines . Hope NMRA will also consider sputnik v soon.

    N Jayasuriya Friday, 22 January 2021 12:02 PM

Good news. I hope we get it soon.

    Jegath Friday, 22 January 2021 12:07 PM

Oxford/AstraZeneca is one of the three approved vaccines in circulation in many countries, but what we are going to get is the “COPIED VERSION “ of that vaccine produced in the Indian production line. There is vast difference in quality between the original and the copied vaccine.

    kumar Friday, 22 January 2021 01:35 PM

Medicines cannot be copied and produced in mass scale publicly. They are are producing under the license from the respective owners. If you don't know something don't make ignorant comments.

Rita Roberts Friday, 22 January 2021 01:55 PM

Don’t comment like an Idiot. There is no copied version. The Aztrazeneca vaccine is made only in India in collaboration with Oxford and its the original

    Anika Friday, 22 January 2021 07:00 PM

He/she must be think that a vaccine is similar to a movie. Then you can copy..

Parakrama Siriwardena Friday, 22 January 2021 01:06 PM

This is a good decision. AstraZeneca is the most versatile for our climatic conditions and doesn't need the extreme cold conditions. It will be easy to transport and efficacy rate is good though not reported as high as the Pfize or Moderna. Though it is made in India it is under the license of the original producers. So not need to be apprehensive. Further it is cheap and affordable. 4 US$ against 20 US$ which is the cost of the Pfizer and Moderna. We can get more vaccines and roll out can be fast. If we buy the other we will need cold chain modifications which will take time. Please check on these and then comment. Ill informed information may mislead people and be detrimental to the roll out

    Logical Friday, 22 January 2021 01:13 PM

@jegath What's are the vast differences? Please do list them down, and also please do mention how you compared the two vaccines to arrive at the vast differences?

Made in India again. Thats the benchmark for anything in SL these days. Trains, three-wheelers, cars, busses, trucks, mobile phones and medicines.

Some oeople are so misinformed by social media nowadays, they tend to belive if social media says that woman whom you married was not your wife. Oxford University and AstraZeneca developed the vaccine and it is manufactured in India at AstraZeneca facilities. There is no truth in this copied version as some people here are saying confidently after seeing some whatsup messages. This is the cheapest vaccine priced at USD 3 per dose while Moderna and Pfizer are close to USD 25 per dose. Oxford University vaccine is given to UK population now. It has also been ordered by Australia. If it is good for them then why it is bad for them . Or do you expect some viagara effect from Pfizer vaccine. Unbelievable mentality of some Sri Lankans.

    OXF Friday, 22 January 2021 01:50 PM

@ Jaffna Logic: Do you know that Oxford is in UK? And Oxford has given the license to manufacture AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine to India. Importing directly from UK will be very costly.

    Manoj Friday, 22 January 2021 03:46 PM

Looks like everyone has an opinion, irrespective of the knowledge they possess... did you know that most of the vaccines you and your family have taken over the years are manufactured by the same Indian companies? Did anyone bother to check the efficacy? Everyone put their trust on the medical experts and took it!! Please visit WHO website and see for yourself that, many vaccines are developed under one year, and are in Use.

Rita Roberts, did you at least stay in school until 16 ?
