The Department for Registration of Persons (DRP) has decided to resume their service on issuing National Identity Cards from today, DRP Commissioner-General Viyani Gunathilaka said.
Speaking to the Daily Mirror he said the announcement of resuming the service was made two weeks before to make aware of the people.
We have decided to limit accepting applications under the one-day service scheme in Colombo to 250 and 75 in Galle, he said.
"The applicants should visit the Divisional Secretariats to reserve a date and a time and once the applications are signed by the respective Grama Niladharis, the applicants should mention whether his/her application should be processed under one-day or normal service," Mr. Gunathilaka said. He also stressed that the applicants should adhere to health guidelines issued by the health ministry when visiting the department.
The applications for issuing NICs for next one and half weeks have already been accepted, he said.
Issuing NICs under one-day service was temporarily suspended on March 17 due to the spread of corona virus in the department premises. (Chaturanga Samarawickrama)
