The no-confidence motion against the government was defeated in parliament today by a majority of 27 votes with 92 members voting for it and 119 against.
The JVP brought the motion, UPFA voted in favour of the motion, but the UNP and TNA voted against. Some 13 members were absent during the voting time.
Ruling party MP V. Radhakrishnan was absent during the voting time as he was out of the island.
SLFP members who back President Maithripala Sirisena also voted in favour of the motion. (Yohan Perera and Ajith Siriwardana)
