The MP’S presence in Parliament is questionable as he had paid tribute to an LTTE Leader who happened to be a notorious killer

I appeared on behalf of her at Jaffna Courts and the courts advised me to explain to her that she can have a memorial service for her son privately.

Minister Sarath Weerasekera and TNA MP M.A. Sumanthiran was engaged in a heated argument in Parliament on Saturday where Mr Weerasekera alleged that the latter had commemorated an LTTE Leader.

The argument flared up when Mr Sumanthiran raised a privilege issue against the Presidential Commission on Political Victimisation whom be said had falsely accused him of evading the commission. “I was summoned to the commission several times but I sent in my response and even went before the commission once. I request the Speaker to take action against this move. Also, my parliamentary privilege is violated as the summons are being sent only in Sinhalese,” he said.

Minister Weerasekera who responded, questioned as to how the MP could talk about parliamentary privileges when his presence in the House is questionable. (YOHAN PERERA AND AJITH SIRIWARDANA)

Killers are in Parliament too. So the Minister must get the house cleaned before attempting to clean the outside world

    joshua Monday, 30 November 2020 09:38 AM

why are we quarrelling about the commemoration when a convicted killer is seated in parliament?

    BuffaloaCitizen Monday, 30 November 2020 09:52 AM

If Weerasekera can find his roots with Weerasekeran, then he will understand better how once upon a time Dravidian evolved into becoming Sinhalese and then converting himself to Buddhism.

Come on Buffalo citizen. You are good at manufacturing history. People don't fall for your your comments. What a boring individual.

Mother has every right to have a memorial service to her diseased departed son.

Rohan de Silva Monday, 30 November 2020 01:14 PM

It is a shame she produced an LTTE killer. Mother shoukd have known to guide the son to be a good citizen not a violent terrorist.

Hello, Weerasekera unnehe, minimaruwan, ethonol karayanta parlimentuwata anna puluwanam, apata bary ayi.

Kumaran- Wattala Monday, 30 November 2020 01:08 PM

First get rid off the killers from the parliament. There can't be two type of rules in the country.

    Dan Monday, 30 November 2020 01:47 PM

The ruling leadership and the main majority sect should have the backbone to legalise and emphatically disown, arrest and prosecute any and every citizen of this country if he or she commemorates or shows support to an internationally banned terror organisation that destroyed the lives of citizens of the country whether in North,. East or any other part of this country. Plain

    Sheri Monday, 30 November 2020 02:07 PM

Its like commemorating bin laden - is that allowed???

charith seneviratne Monday, 30 November 2020 02:45 PM

Comments can be put but get one thing straight a terrorist is a terrorist and his mother can do what she wants inside her house. If there is a ruling it has to be followed. Sumanthiran had better get one thing straight, it is not the Yahapalana in power now. He can shut up and get the hell out of this country or stay in Jaffna. Stay Safe idiot. No one is going to be perturbed over and idiot. We need more people at the helm like the Hon. Minister Admiral Weerasekara. A GREAT MAN !!!!

    Massdeen Monday, 30 November 2020 02:49 PM

I do agree with Mr Ram comment, Weerasekera should look around and get rid of the killers and drug dealers in Parliament, just don’t try to show colours to the President

    Kumara Monday, 30 November 2020 03:08 PM

The minister is whipping up tension unnecessarily between communities. God sake, He must calm down and bring peace. Please do not give excuses to superpowers to interfere!

We are fighting with deadly cv 19 you both are fighting for the dead heroes and zeroes.Allow the dead to RIP.

    ram Monday, 30 November 2020 05:45 PM

People should not hesitate to label war criminals and their agents when war criminals and their associate label anyone as a terrorist. People should campaign for war against war criminals around the world. Otherwise, these war criminals and their agents might recommit their crimes. War crimes are defined in international law and not by any individual nation

    Man Tuesday, 01 December 2020 08:56 AM

What action that hero had taken against the lifting of the LTTE ban, in the UK, by being among the convicted and accused killers of his party? It may be his definition of democracy of his allies.
