Thunderstorms are expected in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, North-Western and Central Provinces and in the Galle, Matara and Badulla Districts, the Meteorology Department said today.
“Heavy falls exceeding 100mm are expected at several areas in warning sites. Strong gusty winds of up to 70-80kmph are also possible during thundershowers,” it said.
The Meteorology Department advised people to seek shelter and to avoid going to open areas such as paddy fields, tea plantations and water bodies during thunderstorms. “Avoid using wired telephones, connected electric appliances and open vehicles such as motorbikes, tractors and boats,” it said.
The Meteorology Department also asked the general public to contact the disaster management authorities for emergency assistance. (Sheain Fernandopulle)
