A low-level atmospheric disturbance has set in the vicinity of Sri Lanka which will bring heavy showers and high winds, the Department of Meteorology said today.
The Department requested the general public to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by lightning activity during thundershowers.
Showers or thundershowers are expected in most parts of the island after 2.00 p.m. Heavy falls above 100 mm can be expected at some places in the Sabaragamuwa, Central, Southern, Uva, Western and North-western provinces and also in the Anuradhapura and Vavuniya districts.
Fairly heavy falls above 50 mm can be expected at some places elsewhere.
Heavy showers exceeding 100 mm have been reported in many areas with the highest rainfall of 107.1mm recorded from Elston in Awissawella. (Yohan Perera)
