Former Sri Lanka Cricket Captain Aravinda De Silva has been summoned by the Special Investigation Division of the Ministry of Sports to record a statement over the 2011 ICC World Cup Final match-fixing allegation, SSP W. A. J. H. Fonseka said.

De Silva was the Chairman of the Selection Committee of the Sri Lanka Cricket at that time.

He said the Police would record Mr Silva’s statement tomorrow.

Earlier, former Sports Minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage claimed that ICC World Cup final match between India and Sri Lanka in 2011 was fixed.

On June 24, the Special Investigation Division recorded statement from Aluthgamage over his comment.

Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Dullas Alahapperuma appointed the Special Investigation Unit comprising an SSP and an SP to implement the legal provisions of the Prevention of Offences Relating to Sports Act.

SSP Fonseka who is the Director of the unit said that further investigation would be carried out after recording statement from Aravinda De Silva.(Darshana Sanjeewa Balasuriya)

This is to sling mud at the past National cricketers who brought glory/fame to our country. All politics and politicos on all sides ruined our country.

Well, knowing that Indians at that time were able to chase even 350 if had to chase to win, when Kumar won the toss, why did he choose to bat first? Even Murali did not agree of his decision.. This was the biggest turn off, vesting the decision on the hands of the expert when the common sense-the error made was easily comprehended by the rest of the cricket loving public of Sri Lanka.

How foul mouthed politicians can ruin the citizens who brought honour to the country. Now these world famous cricketers will have to give statements to the police like the politicians. Sad state of affairs.

This is madness, is this the way to treat a prominent cricketer who brought glory to our nation. He is not a dirty politician (a looter) like Mahinananda Aluthgamage.

After that a commission will be established and entire episode of this mega drama finishes, everything will be swept under the carpet and all will be forgotten as usual in the banana republic. Not a single wrongdoer will be punished.

Such a shame that our heroes are being attacked. Corruption, match fixing and reverse fraud is common wherever there is money. Reverse fraud is people "innocent" suddenly gain properties in their families names. No one complains and never prosecuted. In England this is common. Politicians families, police families suddenly acquire wealth.
