An inmate who was admitted to the Colombo South Teaching Hospital after being injured in a clash at the Mahara Prison has escaped from the hospital, police said.
The detainee had escaped from the hospital last night and it is reported that the search for the detainee is currently underway.
Eleven inmates were killed in the unrest at the Prison on November 29 and 106 inmates were injured. Thirty-eight of the injured detainees have tested positive with Covid-19.
