Leader of Opposition Mahinda Rajapaksa was making contradicting statements on Counter-Terrorism Bill (CTB), Minister of Public Enterprise Lakshman Kiriella alleged today.

Minister Kiriella said in a statement that Mr Rajapaksa agreed for a dialogue with Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe to discuss the Bill.

He charged that Mr Rajapaksa had changed his tune now and had said that he would not allow the Government to pass the new legislation.

“Sri Lanka brought in the Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA) in 1979. This was based on the legislation introduced in the UK to combat terrorists of Northern Ireland.

“The UK updated this legislation 2000 and in 2001 to face global terrorism,” Mr Kiriella said.

Kiriella said that several other countries had introduced legislation to face global terrorism.

He alleged that the Leader of Opposition was trying to mislead the people by trying to show that PTA was sufficient to handle global terrorism.

Whats wrong with Kiriella? He's lying through his teeth and still trying to promote fake news even after so many people have lost their lives?

Instead of beating about the bush please present the case to the people without using this like everything else to blame each other. Publish the document in all media with clauses of each act and then people will know what is this you guys are fooling the people with.

These things are time consuming. By the time this piece of garbage becomes ligit, the Government may have changed. Why not review and upgrade the existing PTA.
