Leave for all police officers, except for those serving in isolated areas have been canceled with immediate effect until May 31, Police Spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana said.
He said the police and security forces will execute special operations and barricades will be erected from midnight today until May 31 to prevent people from travelling between provinces unnecessarily, except for essential services and duties.
He said only those are engaged in essential services will be allowed to travel among provinces.
He said those who cross provincial borders in order to report to essential duties should produce a valid document or SMS verified by the officers whether he/she is permitted to cross the provincial frontiers.
Those who are crossing the borders for tours, holidaying or on leisure activities will be completely prohibited.
In addition those living in isolated area will not be allowed to leave the areas.
DIG Rohana said the instructions issued by the Director General of Health Services will be strictly applied and stringent action will be taken against those who violate those guidelines.(Darshana Sanjeewa Balasuriya)
