Kadawatha-Mirigama Section-1 expressway construction commenced

Construction of the Central Expressway (E04) Section-1 between Kadawatha and Mirigama commenced yesterday, Expressway Section-1 project official said.

He said 36.5-km-long stretch which was undertaken by Metallurgical Corporation of China was scheduled to complete in four years.

Section-1 includes three interchanges in Gampaha, Meerigama and Veyangoda. The construction would be done in two stages. The first stage will be completed with five km and the rest of the distance will be completed at a cost of Rs.168.5 million.

The Central Expressway project is to be implemented in four stages; from Kadawatha to Mirigama (37 km), Mirigama to Kurunegala (39.28 km), Pothuhera to Galagedara (32.5 km) and Kurunegala to Dambulla (60.3 km).

The contract was signed in 2015 and 2016, but delayed as it was not approved. However, the advance payment has been made and the construction has commenced today. The project will complete in four years.

Accordingly, the construction of segments from Kadawatha to Kurunegala via Mirigama, Kurunegala to Dambulla and Pothuhera to Galagedara of the Central Expressways will also be expedited. (Chaturanga Samarawickrama)
