The Jayawardanapura University is conducting an examination over the rapid spread of Covid-19 from three clusters, Army Commander Shavendra Silva said.
He said the examination is being carried out from the Covid-19 samples taken from Kandakadu, Minuwangoda and Peliyagoda clusters. He said they will receive the reports of the examination soon.
Meanwhile, the Commander said the decision to impose curfew in the Western province was taken as majority of the cases were reported from the Western Province.
The Commander said that the situation in the Gampaha District when compared with last week or 10 days earlier, was different. He added that less numbers of Covid cases were being reported especially from Northern Police areas in the Gampaha District.
However, cases are still being reported from Wattala and Mahara areas. The highest number of coronaviruses was reported from the Colombo district yesterday.
He said that 237 of the 335 new cases identified yesterday have been identified from the Colombo district.
Of these, 161 have been identified from the Colombo city limits, 17 from the Kesbewa Medical Officer of Health Division and 21 from Mattakkuliya. (Darshana Sanjeewa Balasuriya)
