President Gotabaya Rajapaksa said today that he won't hesitate to withdraw Sri Lanka from any international organization that continues to make baseless allegations and harass security forces of Sri Lanka.

The President said this while speaking at the 11th anniversary ceremony of victory against the LTTE which was held at Battaramulla. He said throughout the history, people in the country including Sinhala, Tamil, Muslim, Malay and Burgher have had equal rights.

"The motive of the extremists was to divide us. If they were successful in their attempt, our history could have taken a different course. Sri Lanka could have become a country where communities hate each other, engage in continuous battles for borders, fear of war is a common norm of life and another hapless and divided country.

The honor of liberating the country from this catastrophe should be given to all our heroic troops who fought for the peace in our country for a long time. We remember with immense gratitude, all the war heroes including General Kobbekaduwa and General Vijaya Wimalarathna who fought for this victory for more than three decades and laid their lives for the country. As an officer who was engaged in active service for around 20 years, later as the Secretary Defence for 10 years as well as a citizen I am very well aware of the sacrifices made by our war heroes," he said. What power or mandate do you have to withdraw this nation from international organizations?

Joe Arnold Wednesday, 20 May 2020 11:07 AM

Not to worry Binkunda there will be all of the patriotic people wanting out of the international organisations. These organisations are run by the tamil diaspora. This is a well known trend in UK (being a UK citizen I am aware of this personally), France and Switzerland.

    Jude Tuesday, 19 May 2020 09:41 PM

Moreover, Ban Organizations like GTF, BTF, ATC, CTC activities in SL !!!

True Sri Lankan Wednesday, 20 May 2020 03:21 AM

Excellent. Two word "International Community" are the words basterdised mostly, hugely, in fact it's only a few powerful western countries manipulating unfairly to twist the hands of countries like Sri Lanka. UN and its organisations are no different. Dividing world into two or more factions is inevitable, we need to revive "Non align organisation" like back in the days. Unfortunately some of our politicians are sucking the bums of Western powers, they will have a special place in hell!

    Jeeves Wednesday, 20 May 2020 03:28 AM

Interesting but history says differently: When the Portuguese came in Lanka was being ruled by 3 brothers who are sons of King Wiyaebaku. We know what happened. Now China is trying when 3 brothers are ruling again too. Make sure history is not repeating.

    Sanka Wednesday, 20 May 2020 03:40 PM
