President Maithripala Sirisena was reported to have told the government that he could not remove Inspector General of Police (IGP) Pujith Jayasundara because he was appointed on a decision of the Constitutional Council.
He had said this when he met the ministers at his office on Monday evening to discuss the crisis situation triggered by a series of bombings on Sunday killing 321 people.
The President was responding to calls by some ministers that the IGP should be sacked forthwith over his alleged failure to act on intelligence reports and avert the attacks on Easter Sunday.
Sources said the President said on a previous occasion, some ministers had prevented him from removing the IGP through the proper procedure.
Health Minister Rajitha Senaratne called for the resignation of the IGP at a news conference on Monday and said if otherwise he would get the President to expel the IGP from office. (Kelum Bandara)

You are trying to cover your mistakes by removing the heads of armed forces. First you resign..

Protecting general public is in the hands of the leaders of state. No point in making a shuffle after the worst has happened. Most of the people expect the resignations of all the heads of state.

PM was in charge the government when president was away for abroad, just sacking the IGP will never prove the PM 's fault was RIGHT or JUSTIFIED.

The DIG was informed, but no action was taken. Sacking the DIG is a secondary thing. The primary thing the President must probe, whether any politician/s prevented him taking any action.

The Governaor of Eastern Province, an appointee of Prez, was seen apparently shaking hands with a suicide bomber under a banner which depict Thoweed Jamat on a photo. This is circulating widely on social media. What Connection Gov Hizbullagh has with this organisation?

When you shuffle, you are recycling garbage. You have to get rid of the garbage once and for all. Good place to start will be from top down. You must be given priority since you are our first cirizen.
