The Department of Meteorology today predicted surging waves and rough seas around the country in the coming days.
“There is a possibility that in near shore sea areas off the coast extending from Beruwala to Hambantota via Galle, may experience surges due to the effect of swell waves, having 2.0 – 2.5m height,” the Department said.
“There is a high possibility of increased wind speed up to (60-70) km/h in the sea areas off the coast extending from Kankesanturai to Hambantota via Mannar, Colombo and Galle. The sea areas could be very rough at times,” the Department added.
According to the Department of Meteorology, the other sea areas around the island could also be rough at times. Fishermen have been warned that it would be dangerous to venture into the seas while the naval communities were requested to be vigilant in this regard. (Yohan Perera)
