Hambantota Mayor Eraj Fernando, who was sentenced to five-years imprisonment for threatening a group of UNP MPs, was granted bail by the Hambantota High Court today.
He has filed a petition in the Court of Appeal.
The mayor brandished a pistol at a group of UNP MPs who visited Mattala in 2014 on a fact-finding mission.
The mayor later claimed the pistol was a toy pistol.
