The Government Medical Officers' Association (GMOA) today said they had made a policy request from the President to close all wine stores, outlets and to motivate people not to smoke and help increase the immunity of the people.
GMOA Secretary Dr. Shenal Fernando said due to the alarming spread of COVID virus in the country, it was essential to go for the immediate closure of all shops that sell alcoholic beverages and prevent people from smoking.
That will help boost the immunity system of the people and it will help control the virus spread, the doctor said.
"People used to gather inamy places to buy liquor, to smoke or to consume them. Most of them throw parties at home. In a situation where the country is currently battling with, those habits are totally unacceptable," Dr. Fernando said. (Chaturanga Samarawickrama)

What a foolish idea. In England people consumed alcohol as usual. It did not affect their immunity. Look how England has controlled the pandemic by now.

What a load of hogwash. Obviously GMOA have no idea what happened during the curfew last year? People were brewing their own illegal poison. Those who are addicted will drink anything to get intoxicated. The consequences are dire.

"..That will help boost the immunity system of the people and it will help control the virus spread.." This is nonsense. Australia fully controlled the virus but never closed wine stores at any time.
