The Chairman of the Kalutara Urban Council Chairman (UNP) M. Ameer Nazeer had been arrested this morning for allegedly entering a playground forcibly, unlawful assembly, and violating the quarantine regulations on June 23, the Police said.
They said that Kalutara (South) Police had launched an investigation after the Manager of the Vernon Fernando Sports Complex in Kalutara lodged a complaint that a group of people, including the Nazeer, had forcibly entered the complex.
Earlier, the Police arrested Opposition Leader of Kalutara Pradeshiya Sabha (UNP) S.A. D. Nilantha and another person over the incident.
They were later released on bail.
The Police said the Urban Council Chairman would be produced in the Kalutara Magistrate's Court soon.(Darshana Sanjeewa Balasuriya)
