Five candidates spent Rs.1,257mn: CMEV

A total of Rs.1, 257 million has been spent from October 14 till November 4 by five candidates contesting for the presidential election on their election campaign, the Centre For Monitoring Election Violence (CMEV) said.

Accordingly, the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) has spent a total of Rs.750 million for the election campaign for Gotabaya Rajapaksa while the New Democratic Front (DNF) has spent a total of Rs.470 million for the election campaign of Sajith Premadasa.

The SLPP has spent Rs.53 million for print media, Rs.603 million for electronic media and Rs.94 million for another cost while the DNF has spent Rs.104 million for print media, Rs.253 million for electronic media and Rs.113 million as another cost.

National People's Power (NPP) has spent a total of Rs.31 million, Jana Setha Peramuna (JSP) has spent Rs. 4 million and National People's Movement (NPM) has spent Rs.2 million for their election campaign, the CMEV said.

Rs.4 million was spent for the electronic media election campaign for the JSP presidential candidate Ven Battaramulla Seelaratana Thero. (Darshana Sanjeewa Balasuriya)

    Does this take into account foreign media advertising presumably for the consumption of the Sri Lanka community who follow such articles???? EG: Baba mail that has shown a tendency to increase its publications recently

    Oh, god, what a waste!. Could have been built 1200 houses for house-less people even spent 1mn for a house. Currently Housing Authority gives 400,000/- for a house as loan. As a nation long way to go.....!!!

    They could have easily reduced the price of bread by 5 rupees at least with that money...but they love the country so much that they instead spend all that money to be the president so that they can reduce the prices of all food items it looks like....
