Eight police officers interdicted

Eight police personnel including the OIC of the anti-vice squad attached to the Chilaw police have been interdicted due to alleged malpractice, police said.

They said the OIC who is a sub-inspector, a police sergeant, five constables and a police constable driver were among those interdicted.

According to the police, the police team had raided gambling at a hotel in Wennappuwa on September 6 following a tip-off.

The police officers had arrested 9 suspects out of 20 who were gambling and released the remaining 11 suspects.

The Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) of the Naththandiya had commenced an investigation into the incident and following the investigations, it was revealed that the said police officers had allegedly defrauded the suspect’s money and also the money at the gambling. (DSB)
