Naval and fishing communities have been advised not to venture into the Southeast Arabian sea area from tomorrow (14) until further notice, Meteorology Department said.
They said a low-pressure atmosphere has formed over the Southeast Arabian Sea adjoining Lakshadweep. It is very likely to transform into a depression during the next 48 hours.
It is likely to move nearly north-northwestwards towards Gujarat and Pakistani coast around the evening on May 18.
Henceforth, those who are engaged in the aforementioned marine activities are advised to return to the shores or move to safer areas as soon as possible.
The fishing and naval communities are in the deep and shallow seas extending from Kankasanturai to Hambanthota via Mannar, Colombo and Galle are cautioned to be vigilant especially during this spell.
They are requested to be attentive on the forecasts issued in the future.
Heavy showers or thundershowers and rough seas associated with a sudden increase of wind speeds up to 55-60 kmp/h are likely in deep and shallow seas extending from Kankasanturai to Hambanthota via Mannar, Colombo and Galle during the next 24 hours, the Department said. (Chaturanga Samarawickrama)
