The Mawanella Magistrate’s Court today issued an interim order suspending sessions of Mawanella Pradeshiya Sabha for seven days, Police said.
Police Spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana said that the police had received information about the monthly session of Mawanella PS, scheduled to be held today despite lockdown.
“The Mawanella Police area is a lockdown area. The public movements have been highly restricted and the persons cannot enter or leave from the area under any circumstances except the members of essential services.
He said the police reported facts to the court requesting to issue a restraining order under the provisions of the criminal procedure code and the Quarantine and Prevention of Diseases Ordinance.
Mawanella Magistrate Upul Rajakaruna has issued an interim order for Mawanella PS Chairman and its Secretary suspending the sessions for seven days from today.
He said the police were compelled to go to court due to the decisions of the PS Chairman and the Mayor. “They are also one of the responsible authorities and they need to take precautionary action to prevent the spreading the disease,” DIG Rohana said.
He said thar the police will file the charge against them under the contempt of court if the Chairman or the Secretary violate the order.(DSB)
