Community-related disease like Coronavirus can never be eradicated by isolating the community, the Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA) said.

Addressing the media, GMOA spokesman Dr. Samantha Ananda said the novel coronavirus is a disease which is spreading in the community and help should come from the community to defeat it.

He said the coronavirus spread is an issue relating to Community Health.

Therefore, a wide comprehensive and very sensitive programme should be implemented to locate COVID-19 positive patients, to examine them and their close associates with immediate effect, Dr Ananda said.

“The programme should target the public to get their help. Without getting their help, this pandemic situation cannot be eradicated from the community,” he said.

“As this coronavirus is in the community, it could convert to a community problem. After that, we can ask them for help to eradicate it,” Dr. Ananda added. (Chaturanga Samarawickrama)

I have no clue what you are saying. All this time you wanted more curfews. GMOA has no consistent policy towards covid-19. Please step aside and let people with common sense handle it.

Do not talk nonsense. Corona can control by isolation. Infected people should not mix with uninfected people. All the newcomers to a particular group undergo 14 days of isolation and must have a PCR test.

"A wide comprehensive and sensitive program should be implemented to eradicate COVID-19. So tell us who is going to do this - not the 'natames' in the Pettah, are they. What are you guys in this so called Government Medical Officers' Trade Union doing ? probably organizing strikes while the real medical professionals are doing your dirty work.

A star class joker. The quick and safe solution is to inoculate the front line workers and the people at high risk. I have heard this joker say Sri Lanka cannot afford the Pfizer vaccine as it needs to stored at - 70 deg Celsius. As he was stating this live on a talk show on TV, Moderna announced a vaccine that can be stored at - 20 deg Celsius. That is a kitchen refrigerator. Why is this trade union silent on this issue? Is it because the Sri Lanka government cannot afford this vaccine?

GMOA should represents these facts at the Covid 19 task force ( NOCPCO) meetings and not at media briefings to be more effective.

This is what I have been stating for years as to dengue, which could have been eradicated by isolating the patients rather than going behind uninfected dengue mosquitoes. We have spent unnecessary in billions and lost thousands of lives and harassed innocent public created unethical phobia because we didn't want to listen to simple logic, Thanks for realising logic is better than panic.
