The Colombo Municipal Council (CMC) will carry out an investigation into the findings of condoms inside the blocked drains of the Municipal workshop, a CMC member Saman Abeygoonaratne told Daily Mirror yesterday.
He said he had raised this matter during the council sessions on July 2 and added that the condoms were found when the blocked drains were being cleaned up. “Unwarranted things are known to be taking place at the workshop such as the abuse of women,” Mr. Abeygoonaratne said.
Councillor Shermila Gonawala who joined in the discussion said the matter should be investigated as soon as possible.
Colombo Mayor Rosy Senanayake in her response asked Mr. Abeygoonaratne whether he took responsibility for what he said and requested him to provide a written request for an investigation.
Mr. Abeygoonaratne is reported to have done so. (Yohan Perera)

As long it is done privately with consent during the break it's o.k. But flushing the rubber pods used is a bad habit. He should have put it in his pocket and taken it home.

Finding condoms (no mention whether used/unused) in a drain means there is abuse of women! What kind of logic, is that?
Patrick jansz Saturday, 04 July 2020 08:53 AM

Raj Saturday, 04 July 2020 08:56 AM

Come on the comments are silly. Workplaces have rules. Besides it's a good thing to check whether this was abuse of power.

"Colombo Mayor Rosy Senanayake in her response asked Mr. Abeygoonaratne whether he took responsibility for what he said and requested him to provide a written request for an investigation." OR is it a misprint - which should have read "Colombo Mayor Rosy Senanayake....... iasked Mr. Abeygoonaratne whether he took responsibility for what he did ........" ! !

This is an example how administration and local government politics has made this country so decadent and putrefying. Try as you might, they are very unresponsive or even off-handish to any justified reports and even the health inspectors are prominent by their absence and hardly patrol their areas and responsibilities.

In every street corner drain you will find em. Did a little bit more, you'll find loads. So what? Other than pollution due to inappropriate disposal?
