Majority of those who were killed and injured following the bomb attack which took place at Zion Church in Batticaloa on Sunday, had been identified as children, Batticaloa hospital sources said. Sources said 29 deaths had been reported so far while about 140 injured.
Between 25-30 were recorded as major injuries while 10 were reported critical. Those who were found critical are currently receiving treatments at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) Emergency Treatment Unit (ETU) and Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU). Sources further said two injured people had been transferred to the Kandy Hospital for Neurosurgical treatments. A total of 150 persons came seeking treatments on the day of the attack and majority of them were admitted with injuries at liver and chest. Daily Mirror witnessed most of the shops were seen closed in the Batticaloa area and heavy army security has been provided around the area. (Gihan De Chickera reporting from Batticaloa)
