Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP), commenting on the dismissal of a court case in the United States against its presidential candidate Gotabaya Rajapaksa, said these were unsuccessful attempts at disqualifying him.
Party chairman G.L. Peiris told Daily Mirror that a similar attempt was made by some people here by challenging his citizenship in the Court of Appeal. However, he said the court dismissed the case and upheld the view that the petition was mala fide.
Prof. Peiris asked these people to challenge Mr. Rajapaksa politically if they were able to do so. (Kelum Bandara)

US court clearly states in its decision that the US Citizenship of Gota is disputed. Is Gota still a US Citizen? Can he contest in SL?

Revisit your law books and read behind the lines of the decision why the Court dismissed the Case.

GOTA ALWAYS GET AWAY WITH SOME TECHNICAL ISSUES. IT IS THE WORK OF HIS CAPABLE TEAM OF LAWYERS WHO SHOULD BE GIVEN CREDIT. BUT FOR HOW LONG CAN HE ESCAPE. HE HAS A TOUGH CASE, BUT IF ELECTED HE WILL GET AWAY FROM THAT ALSO. HE IS NOT A CLEAN MAN ALWAYS IN THE MIDST OF CLOUDS

It's a shame to see what has become of an educated man like you. You would have been better off if you stayed away from politics, then your opinions would be highly respected.

What a lame statement from a law professor. Imagine it was your daughter who was fighting for justice.
Lord Wolfstein Wednesday, 23 October 2019 09:22 AM
Professor, this is wrong. The court upheld the view that Gota committed war crimes and human rights violations, but can do nothing because the case falls not under its jurisdiction. Furthermore there is still no proof that Gota has been released from US citizenship.
